Vision

My Vision for my classroom and school:

*Learning by Exploring self, school, environment and community

*Effectively integrating science and social studies into the curriculum

*Outdoor science lab

*Hands-on learning

*Meaningful projects and a joy for learning

*Real life experiences that motivate children to be successful

*Lifeskills and the Eight Keys incorporated into every part of the day

*Effective collaboration K-5

*Field Trips!!!

Tiffany and I had a wonderful Friday, where our 4th grade students at EES spent the entire afternoon engaged in learning.  Tiffany had groups  observing their Journey North tulip test garden, Ms Corrnett had groups weeding the South side of EES, and Tiffany's mother and I had groups observing seeds and planting a variety of seeds. (Wildflowers, Zinnias, Sunflowers) It was a wonderful day and the kids took pride in their work and what they planted.  They also all marked with popsicle sticks where they planted, so we can observe the growth.  It was a fantastic way to end a beautiful Friday!  My vision is for learning to break out of the walls of each classroom and into the outdoors and  our community!

  1. I think that your vision sounds great. It will be great to see the changes that occur in your building because of what you want to put in place. Also, the other schools will hopefully be able to take what you've developed and "copy" many of the ideas so that all students are getting these terrific learning experiences.

  2. One of the aspects I like about your project is taking the science outside of the classroom. Every spring I try to do a walking field trip to Lakeside where we do a few experiments. It always ends up being fun but labor intensive. To create access to this at the location of the school should make for a nice break from the classroom and provide a new element for science in school.

  3. I LOVE your comment of breaking out of the walls of each classroom and into the outdoors and our community!!! Did you create this on your own? It sounds like a famous quote! Can I quote you - and, get your autograph? I'm so thankful to have you as a partner. You are amazing!

  4. How exciting, Katie! It's great to know that you have developed such a partnership with the fourth grade teachers in your building to promote exciting hands on science lessons. The incorporation of Tiffany's mom in addition to the teachers is a win-win as well.

Reminder: Give me a call or send me a text and let me know who and what you might need for extra help on your next project or field trip. We would love to assist and learn what a some great teachers!
